Due to some problems with her uncles, Maricruz and her family were asked to leave the ranch, which is when they came to Ensenada B.C.  Starting a new life in Ensenada was really hard for them, they didn't have money to buy food, and had nowhere to live. A house was lent to them and during that time is when Maricruz met Jesus Antonio. They began dating and shortly after, moved in together. Maricruz´s family is now financially stable and are working hard. Maricruz and Jesus bought land and paid it off with a loan they received from a family member; they continue to pay the family member. This house will be such a great help for the family and the future of their two daughters.

Arcadio and Maribel are originally from Oaxaca, they both decided to move to Ensenada in search of better work opportunities. They moved to Ensenada with their son Ezequiel, Rubi was born in Ensenada. Arcadio found work in the fields, but Maribel wasn’t able to get a job, so she decided to stay home and care for their family. They were living with Arcadio’s brother for the first few months before eventually finding a piece of land they could buy on credit and build on. Their land is now paid off. They bought wood and materials, and Arcadio and his brother built them a place to live. Arcadio is currently working Monday to Saturday, 6:30 am to 2:30 pm in the fields, earning around $65 a week. When she was nineteen years old she met Britany´s dad, she ended up leaving him because of his abuse of drugs. Four years later she met Rosa´s father, but he disappeared while she was pregnant with Rosa, and she hasn't heard from him since. Dulce has been able to fully provide for her daughters on her own. She works in a packing plant making sure the product is in good condition to be sent out, and earns a salary/income of $1200 pesos per week working from Monday to Saturday. While she works, she pays a lady to care for her daughters. Dulce bought land from her mother, paying her about $2500 for the land. Currently Dulce lives there with her daughters in her dad´s trailer. She needs a house because the trailer is small, old, and in bad conditions for her and her daughters to live in. For this reason, she longs for an actual home.

She met Rogelio´s father when Elizer was four years old. After ending that relationship she met someone else and became pregnant with Alexa. All of the relationships have ended due to domestic violence and a lack of responsibility from the men. Romelia´s parents had land in Ensenada but had to return to Chiapas so they gave the land to their son. When they returned to Ensenada their son didn’t want them to live with him anymore so Romelia had to take them with her to her house. Romelia’s father doesn´t work because he cares for his wife who suffers from an embolism and hypertensive diabetes. Along with all these problems their eldest son began using drugs. He went to rehab and got out this past July and now works for a taco stand.

It’s been really hard for Elodia to contact him because they have no phone service where his family is in Oaxaca. Elodia lives in a little shed made of wood scraps and a dirt floor. She works in the fields when she can, but sometimes is unable to go because her children are still just babies. Elodia’s parents live with her and help her with the household expenses. Elodia doesn´t have enough money to pay for a babysitter so when she does work, her mom takes care of her daughters. Elodia´s mom suffers from diabetes and back pain and it can be hard for her to keep up with the grandkids. Elodia’s hope is to have a home where she can feel safe.

Carmen and Bianca moved back home with Carmen’s parents after the break-up. Carmen continued working to be able to provide for herself and her daughter. After being single mom for more than 6 years, she met Francisco at the ranch where she was working at. They started dating and decided to move in together and start a family, and that’s when Jesus was born. They moved to a piece of land that they bought on credit and built a shed from some scrap wood where they are currently living. They are asking for a house because they don’t have any way of building anything better for their family.
