Family Story:
Francisco is from Mexcali and Maria is from Tijuana. They met in Tijuana while working for the same company and decided to start a relationship, eventually moving in together; they have lived the last 6 years in Ensenada and have 3 children. 8 years ago, Maria was working in Tijuana and she had a lady looking after her daughter Alison, when she received notice from the fire station that her daughter had been burned and she needed to return home. Alison had boiling water fall down her back, all the way from the neck down. Alison has since had 10 surgeries and been under the care of doctors in Pasadena, CA. They received special permission for the daughter to travel to the USA to receive the specialized medical care at the Children’s Medical Center of Pasadena. Due to all the medications Alison has been taking, she now has lupus in the right eye. Her condition can be life threatening if her symptoms are not treated as soon as they arise. The family does not currently live on their land because their daughter needs to be in a clean, secure house. Francisco works for a grocery store, and works a lot in order to make enough money to pay their land, their rent, and their daughters medical expenses and transportation to and from Pasadena. With all of these expenses, they have not been able to also save and build a house to live in. Maria has lived through a very difficult time with what happened to her daughter, but she also cares for her brother who is handicapped and needs to be in a wheelchair. The Homes of Hope will provide them with a fresh start and a safe place for them to call their own. (There is a picture available of the daughter’s burned back upon request).
