Family Story:
This couple met in San Quintin, Carlos was a friend of Rigoberta’s brother. They went to the same church and spent a lot of time together before eventually getting married and starting a family. Carlos works in the field 7 days a week, doing different jobs. He has to get up at 4am to get on a bus for Ojos Negros where he works from 6am to 3pm He then gets on a bus to go home and is typically home around 9pm every day. They got their land from someone they knew who was giving them a good deal and selling it to them cheap. They didn’t have all the money needed, so they had to get a loan and that is what they are paying off. They built a room on the land but it gets cold in the winter, leaks when it rains, and has a lot of insects that get in. It is not safe for the small children, but for now, all their extra money goes towards paying off the loan. Everything they do is for their children’s well-being.
