Family Story:
Teresa was married to the father of her two sons for many years, but they were not happy together. They fought a lot so she decided it was best to live alone and try to provide the best future possible for her children. Her ex-husband returned to Oaxaca and Teresa moved in with her sister. Teresa later bought land on credit and her brothers helped her build a room to live in with scraps of wood. Teresa works in the fields all week long from 7am to 3:30pm. The oldest son, Ariel, goes to school and Teresa’s family helps care of Diego. For the amount she works, she earns very little and it is not enough for her to be able to provide their basic necessities, pay the land and also build a house that is safe for her sons to live in.
