Family Story:
Josefina is from Veracruz. When she was born her mother did not want her so her grandma adopted her and raised her. When Josefina was 15 years old, her “mama abuela”, as she would call her, passed away. The rest of the family were all drug addicts and alcoholics, Josefina did not want to be around that kind of environment, so she moved to Ensenada. Josefina found work and rented an apartment. Josefina has always worked hard to provide for herself and make a life for herself; she has lived in different places and been through a lot. Josefina is happy with what she has been able to do, but she does not want to see her daughter follow in the footsteps of her ex-husband or other family members who struggle with addictions. Josefina currently works at a home for indigenous children as a cook. Josefina works long hours and doesn’t get paid much, but they help with Perla and provide 3 meals a day. Perla can come and go and is well known and treated well by everyone there. Josefina is asking for help to build a home because that is something that she cannot do on her own.
