Family Story:
Ireni and Jose are originally from Chiapas. They have been together for 5 years and have two children, 4 yr old Emily and 1 yr old Kevin. Their 5 years together have been very difficult years. When Ireni was pregnant with Emily they lived in small room which they rented for a year, and then went to another room in El Zorillo that was lent to them for over 2 years. It was then, just last year that they decided to make Ensenada their home and to look for an affordable lot that they could get on credit. Ensenada offers better opportunities and Jose Manuel is the only one who works; Ireni looked for ways to earn money to help her husband so that they could make the down payment. They sold any clothes they no longer needed and looked for odd jobs until they were finally able to get the land. They are currently living in the shack that Jose Manuel built them out of pallets and cardboard. Their small house is very cold, there are a lot of insects including dangerous spiders and scorpions. It is not safe for them and we are now in the winter season where it is wet and cold. They do not want their children to continue to grow up in these kinds of conditions and just want to be able to provide something better and safer for them with God’s help.
