Family Story:
Pascual is originally from Oaxaca, and Hermelinda from Tijuana. They met at their workplace and after 8 months they began dating. They started out together renting different houses and rooms from relatives. Pascual’s family doesn’t speak Spanish which has made things difficult for Hermelinda as she has had to take responsibility of everything. Pascual’s sister lives with them. Pascual returned to Oaxaca for some time to help and care for his grandma leaving Hermalinda to stay in Ensenada to work and take care of their commitments here. Hermelinda lives under tarps with a dirt floor battling insects and mice, along with the weather. Hermalinda works at a different place each day, being sure to maker enough each week to cover the payments on the land. She works whatever jobs she can get, typically working 8-10 hrs a day, 4 days a week. Hermalinda came asking for help so that they can sleep and eat in comfort.
