FAMILY STORY:

Francisco is 50 years old and Minerva is 42 years old. They are from Chiapas, a state in south México close to the border with Guatemala. They have 2 granddaughters: Diana who is 10 years old and is in 5th grade, and María, who is 8 years old and is in 4th grade.

Francisco and Minerva are from Chiapas but they lost everything they had in a typhoon and decided to move to Ensenada. When they arrived to Ensenada they immediately started to work, they came with their five children, some of them very young. With a lot of work, they were able to provide for their kids and they grew, married and moved out. One of her daughters had a failed marriage and decided to leave her two daughters with her parents who have been providing for since then. Their daughter is now with another man and doesn’t give any support or help for her daughters.

Francisco and Minerva have been working really hard to provide for their two grandchildren, but it has been hard, they live in a small room they made entirely with tarps. They work in the fields all week to pay for all the house expenses and for the girls' education. They came to Homes of hopes asking for an opportunity to receive a house that will be a safe place, protected from the animals, the rain, wind, heat, and cold where they can keep working hard for Diana and María's future.
