FAMILY STORY:
Ivan is 23 years old and Lourdes is 20 years old, they are from Chiapas, a state in south México close to the border of Guatemala. They have 2 kids Hanna who is 2 years old and a newborn baby, Getsemaní, who was born on November 6.
Lourdes used to be a single mom. The father of her first daughter left her when he knew she was pregnant. She didn’t receive any help so two months after giving birth she started to work again. She went to Valle de Guadalupe to work every day, leaving her daughter with her mom.
Working in Valle she met Ivan and they have been together for two years now. Ivan accepted Hanna as if she was his, together they formed a small family. Recently they had their second daughter, Getsemaní. They are very happy and excited but also very worried. One year ago they lost their house, so now they live in a small room they built with scraps of wood, plastic, and tarp. They have no water or electricity on their property either. The rain season is coming, and they are worried about it. Their desire is to have a safe home where they can raise their children and give them better and safer opportunities.
