FAMILY STORY:
Pedro is 37 years old and came from Durango. Matilde is 38 years old and is from Ensenada. They have 3 children: Génesis who is 2 years old, Luna who is 5 years old and is in 2nd grade and Badison who is 9 years old and is in 4th grade.
Matilde met Pedro after her first marriage failed. She has two kids from her previous marriage Jesús and Badison. After her divorce she met Pedro and started a relationship with him. Pedro adopted the kids as his own and sometime later they had two more kids Luna and Génesis.
They live in a small room made of wood scraps that functions as a living room, dining room, and kitchen. They also have a small room with a concrete floor because Luna has asthma and needs a place without dirt to sleep. They work making bread and selling candies. They barely make enough money for their needs, so they don’t have the option of saving money to build a home. Badison is not living with them right now, he lives in a Christian orphanage. They had to do this because they were at risk of losing their son to the government.
Homes of hope represent their hope, the hope of having a bigger and safer place for their kids, but also the hope of being a family, together again.
