It has been harder for the couple, at the beginning they were renting but it was hard for them to keep up with the rents. Finally, they decided to buy a property with a credit and moved there. They build a small room with pieces of wood and tarp.

The children are not going to school because they lost most of their papers in the years they were homeless, and they couldn’t sign up the girls in any school because of it.

After having her first child she moved to another city, Ciudad Juárez. In Ciudad Juarez she met the father of her other two children but he abused her, so she had to separate from him and returned to Mexico City. She stayed for a long time in that city, and there she met the father of her two last children, but after 12 years they separated.

9 months ago she came to Ensenada because her family here offered to help her and they found her a job in a mini-market. She earns 5000 pesos per month (around 280 dollars). She was able to find a land that cost $7,320 dollars. She is buying it in payments paying 100 dollars monthly. Because she is paying that amount of money for her land she can’t  pay a rent. So she decided to live on her own land in a room she made with woods craps and tarp, with her 4 children.

She wants to give a better life to her children and she hopes in God that He can always provide and help her to overcome all this situation in which they find themselves.

  Veronica and Raul met in Mexico City when they were kids. Veronica was 9 years old and Raul 11 years old. About 6 years later they decided to move in together and start a family. One day, because of the animals around their property, the entire place was infested with ticks. They had to throw away all the wood that their small shack was made of fumigate their land and Veronica had to cut all the girls’ hair because they had ticks on them.

 Today, they are living in a camping tent that someone gave them and the people around their community have been trying to help them out as much as they can until they receive their own Home of Hope.

Isela is still paying for her property, she owes around $70,000 pesos (About 4,000 Dlls.). She lives in a trailer with her two kids. They don’t have running water, electricity or plumbing.

Some time later she met another man who help her to build a small room in the property she bought. They started a relationship, but it didn’t work because he was very jealous and violent.

Ángeles now lives in her property, in a small room made with wood scraps in bad shape and with pieces of wood and tarp as a roof. Recently the house just behind hers caught on fire and the fire spread to her house doing some damage to the already beat-up house. Olga works in a taco stand as waitress from 7am to 4 pm and Sergio works in another taco stand from 7 am to 5:30 pm. They both work from Tuesday to Sunday. Together they earn around $5,600 pesos per month (around 300 dlls).

They hired a woman to take care of their kids in the week. She feeds them, clean them and took Andrea to the school and pick her up later.

She will be starting to go to a special kid’s school next years.
