Jesus is from Oaxaca and hsi wife Xiomara is from Ensenada. They met in 2008 and got together after 2 years. Just 2 months after moving in together, Xiomara became pregnant. They were living on a piece of land that Xiomara's mother had borrowed to them. On the land they had a small trailer. But just before Jose Eduardo was born, they went to live with Xiomara's mother. After Jose was born, Jesus and Xiomara had separated for 3 months. Jesus bought a house, but it was in an unsafe area. Xiomara became pregnant again and had their second son, Joshua. When Joshua was one, they sold the land that Jesus had bought and moved to the land where they currently live. Jesus works in construction, but his work isn't consistent as he goes from job to job. Sometimes he has to travel far to work. The salary he makes hasn't been enough for him to be able to build a home for his family.

Judith Maribel is originally from Guatemala. More than 26 years ago she came to Mexico and has been living in Ensenada for about 18 years. In 2007, Judith started a relationship with a man named Luis Alonso Salinas, who is the father of her daughter Jazmin. They were together for 8 years until he decided to return to Oaxaca, his birthplace. Luis' mother had passed away and he went home to be with his family and found work there. He left in December of 2014, leaving Judith and Jazmin. For Judith, she was under the impression that when he left, they were finished. He stayed in touch with his daughter while away. On April 18th of this year, Luis was in an accident at work and almost died. He is still in recovery from what happened to him. Luis chose to contact Judith and his daughter after the accident, Luis explained to Judith what had happened and asked her if she would take him back and help him. Judith forgave him and let him return home. His is currently waiting for surgery on his arm which was broke during the accident. Their relationship as a family before Luis left was like that of a normal family. They were separated for about a year and are now working things out, especially for their daughter Jazmin.  Judith works cleaning houses in order to care for her family. She earns around $36 a week and that is all they have to buy food, water, and basic household necessities. Her small home is a room made from pieces of wood and metal sheets. There have been many times when Jazmin has gotten sick due to their living conditions. It has not been possible for Judith to provide anything better. Many people have told her that she won't be able to accomplish anything because of her situation and being from Guatemala. But Judith has faith that she will have a home and be able to care for her family. She has fought hard to get to where she is now and she will not give up.

Javier and Nieves are from Oaxaca. They came to Ensenada looking for a better way of life than what they had in Oaxaca. They met each other more than 15 years ago and have been a family for 14 years and have 3 children together. Aldahir has asthma and is hospitalized often because of it. Aldahir also suffers from a problem in his blood and is hospitalized for treatments in Tijuana or Mexicali depending on how bad his attacks are. Javier works in the fields planting and harvesting vegetables and earns approximately $72 a week. Nieves also works packaging vegetables and earns approximately $72 a week for that. Through her employment, she receives health insurance and thank to that, she is able to take her son to the doctor. Without the health insurance from her employer, it would be impossible for them to keep up with Aldahir's sickness and the treatments he needs. They are currently still working towards paying off their land. Sometimes they are going through very hard times, but yet they continue to fight for their family and providing the best they can for their children. Their house is made from pieces of wood and tarps. They haven't been able to build anything better as of yet, but have hope that one day they will.

Angel and Yashira met at their place of employment. Angel had been thinking and praying about her and felt that he was supposed to ask her out to dinner. After she said yes, they started a relationship and dated for 9 months before they decided to take their relationship to the next step and move in together. They moved into a house that Yashira's aunt let them stay in. They lived there for two years and during those two years, they had many struggles with that aunt. They decided to buy a piece of land on credit and be able to have their own home for their daughter Genesis to grow up in. They now have 2 daughters. Genesis is a year and a half, and Sinahi is just 6 months old. On their land they built a small room with some recycled wood and black plastic. They have to go with their neighbor in order to shower and use the restroom. With the income that Angel receives, he uses it to pay off the land, buy diapers and wipes, formula and cover their personal expenses with a family of two small children.
