The Hueyotlipan family are originally from Mexico City but have now lived for a few years in Ensenada. They met here at work in Ensenada, and a little while later they got married, and they decided not to have any children right away. Priciliano wanted his family to have their own place to live, so they bought a little piece of property, and they started paying for it little by little and built a little wood house at the same time. Soon their oldest son was born (he is now six years old) and two years later Jimena was born. Unfortunately to be able to build a safe place for their children has been difficult as the amount they earn, is only enough for their food. Priciliano works in the fields, cutting flowers, and he earns $47 USD weekly, and that is not enough to build a home for them. They are worried about their children as they are often bitten by bugs, and would like to have a safe place for their children.

Family Story:

Martha is from Michoacan and decided to leave her husband because he hit her and was an alcoholic. She came to Ensenada secretly ten months ago with her two girls as she could no longer handle life together with her husband.

Martha's parents live in Ensenada and she was able to live with them for a little bit, but the house was very small as they already had about ten people living there, and that was very hard for her.

Right now Martha lives in a little room made from cardboard and plastic that her parents helped her build. She works in the fields every day and earns a weekly salary of $44 USD. Sometimes she works less if there isn't enough work to do.

Martha's girls go to school and as she works every day, her mother takes care of them so she is able to work. Martha's parents live close to where they live.

Martha's ex-husband does not help her financially and sometimes he calls them by phone, but the girls do not want to speak with him.

Martha only has a twin sized bed for all three of them and a little table. They cook outside over a little grill.

Her brother came to visit her from Ensenada and advised her to come back with him and that way she could continue her life with her son without the father of her child.

A little while later she came to Ensenada and moved in with her brother and started to work in a factory. She was able to buy a piece of property and started making the payments on it. Soon she got together with a man and they moved in together, but this one fell into drugs and stopped working. After two and a half years of paying for this lot, she lost it because the man that was living with her did not help with making two of the payments. So she separated from him even though she was pregnant with their daughter.

Later she got together with Valencio and he gave her some property. Now that Libia has a lot in her name, she wants to build a home.
