QHow old do I have to be and what are the requirements for acceptance?
AOur training programs are designed to provide a clear pathway for anyone to get involved in world missions. You need to be eighteen years of age or older, or a high school graduate to apply for DTS. Apart from the age requirement, we ask only that you fill out a simple application to be evaluated by our school leaders. We don’t require college degrees, work experience or seminary background. If you’re on fire for God and are ready to meet His challenges, then you’re ready for a DTS.
QWhere is the DTS held?
AWe hold our DTS schools at either one of our campuses in Tijuana or Ensenada, Mexico. Although we are called “YWAM San Diego/Baja” our location in San Diego does not currently run DTS schools. Our location in Tijuana is located south of the city between Rosarito and Tijuana about 20 minutes south of the border. Ensenada is located about an hour and a half from the border by car. Both of our locations are located within walking distance to the Pacific Ocean and have a variety of things available for you to do on your free time including coffee shops, beach, movie theaters, shops, and of course, lots of great taco stands!
QWhat type of visa will I need for Mexico?
APeople from many of countries, including the United States and Canada, will be able to get a tourist visa once they cross over into Mexico. This visa costs around $25 USD and this amount is not covered in the cost of the program. If you are from outside of the US or Canada we recommend that you get a B1/B2 visa for the USA as it is easier for you to travel, even if your country is part of the visa waiver program. Once accepted, you will receive more information to this regard.
QHowmuch spending money should I bring?
AThe school fees cover all of your food, housing and tuition so that only thing that you will need to bring money for your personal toiletries, laundry detergent and things like tacos, meals out, coffee and souvenirs so the amount you want to bring will depend on how much you need or want to spend. There are ATMs located near the both campuses but you may want to check with your bank to find out if there are extra fees for international withdrawals.
QWhat is the housing like?
ABoth of our campuses have dorm-style housing so singles will be rooming with various roommates in a bunk-style room. Married couples and families with children will be given accommodations with more privacy.
QHow long is DTS?
AThe DTS is a five-month training course. You will spend time in lectures, worship, intercession, local evangelism and a host of other activities. It is a time to focus 100% on God and develop a deeper relationship with Him. The staff and community structure help develop discipline in your personal prayer life and study habits. For most people, the lecture phase of DTS is the most life changing twelve weeks of their lives.
As a second phase of the Discipleship Training School, specially organized teams are sent out for 8 weeks of evangelism in cross-cultural situations. Following the outreach phase, all DTS students spend a Debrief Week in their original classroom training location prior to graduation.
QDo I receive college credit for completing a DTS?
A
Yes you do. The Discipleship Training School program is accredited with the University of the Nations in Kona, HI . Credits from the U of N are transferable to a number of respected Christian colleges. Students will receive 12 credit hours for the DTS lecture phase and 8 credit hours for the DTS outreach phase.
