What translation of the Bible do you use?
We use the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV). The NRSV gives the right balance between reliability and readability.
Are there any prerequisites for doing a CSBS?
Yes. You must have completed a Discipleship Training School and Field Assignment (IDS 701/702) or Crossroads Discipleship Training School (IDS 703/704). If you want more information on a Discipleship Training School (DTS), visit the DTS Page.
Costs / Tuition
$500 deposit one month BEFORE the school begins. The full amount is counted toward the first quarter tuition.
Full nine months tuition and food/housing: $7,700 if paid in full within 8 weeks after the beginning of the school.
If paid quarterly, $2600 by the 8th week of each quarter, for a total of $7,700.
Outreach costs: around $3,000-3,500 for China, India, African nations… around $2,500 for South-East Asian nations, Pacific islands, South America… around $1,500-2,000 for North, and Central America, Caribbean.
Will I earn credits for doing a CSBS?
Yes! You will earn thirty-six (36) semester-equivalent credits upon successful completion of the School of Biblical Studies I, II, III (CCM 311/312/313). These credits may be applied to a U of N degree program or transferred to other colleges and universities.
**IMPORTANT** CSBS is in a different book order from a standard SBS. Therefore, the transferability between the two is currently being worked out administratively with the University of the Nations. Also, taking the first quarter to fulfill the U of N degree requirement would leave you with only the Law and Wisdom literature of the Old Testament. So we highly recommend a commitment to all nine months of the CSBS in order to equip you with EVERY story in the Bible, especially the substance of all sketches and fulfillment of all promises – Jesus!
Outreach for CSBS?
Absolutely! Outreach was one of the founding values of CSBS. CSBS offers students an opportunity to pass on Bible study tools to others.
The First quarter we focus on an internal outreach. Become a Bible Student and let the word of God reach you like never before. Learn how we study. Grow in your love for the word and the experience of study and growth with fellow students. This kind of outreach is about letting your understanding take you personally deeper and those closest to you will want the same.
Second quarter begin allowing God to use you to share the story with others, helping them to make connections they never saw and watch God give others a deeper love and apreciation for the Word and ultimatly for God. This outreach is about looking to those who are outside your group but people you see everyday.
Third Quarter we as a class begin to really stretch ourselves into our community and into the local churches to see God begin using the wealth of understanding that you will have gained in 7+ months of inductive study. Bible Overviews, inductive seminars, and bible storying.
The final Outreach phase is also optional. CSBS students will have their own collection of Bible stories collected and practiced throughout the 9-month lecture phase to use in evangelism and teaching. This will be an accredited outreach where ever God is calling us. We maintain strong vision to be reaching Mexico and the Latin world with our outreaches. We also have a Asia focus for our CSBS outreaches.
