Current Living Conditions:

Jose and Maricela are from Durango, they arrived to Ensenada 3 years ago, seeking for a better life for their kids, specially for their older son Jahdiel who was born with brain paralysis. An 18 year old that can’t walk, speak, or eat by himself, his parents have to bathe him change diapers depending totally in his family.

 They have never owned a house, always having to live paying rent or living with other family. Today, they live in a house somebody lent them in exchange of takong care of the house. Their neighbor sold them have of his terrain and gave them the chance to do very economic payments for it; only $56 pesos per month.

They are an extremely poor family; Jose earns $72 per week. Money that he has to divide in all of his expenses and they are a lot (food, terrain, diapers for their son, doctor etc.). A very working man, but for him it’s impossible to build a house with the income he has.

Noe and Victoriana are an indigenous couple from Oaxaca. They lived in Ensenada for many years but they decided to go back to Oaxaca. They were there for 5 years, but things weren’t doing so well, they had many needs and there were no jobs offers, and the work that he was doing didn’t pay that good.

They decided to come back to Ensenada due that there is more jobs opportunities here, they didn’t go to school and the only thing they know how to do is work at the fields.

They have 4 kids, 3 of the kids stayed back in Oaxaca with their grandfather, Noe and Victoriana moved to Ensenada 8 months ago. They came with the youngest kid due that they want her to have a better house. Once they have a set job they want to bring the rest of them to Ensenada. The kids are in school so they are waiting for the school year to end for them to move to Ensenada.

Noe had to leave to Oaxaca due to an emergency in the mean time Victoriana is working in the fields to be able to pay for the bills and to help out with the house expenses. During the time she is at work her neighbor takes care of Eleyny and pays her 150 pesos per week.

Noe and Victoriana live in a small room made out of wood and cardboard cover with tarps, they don’t have a bed, they don’t have a stove. This is a extremely poor family.
